Baby's death case accused in court
accused of causing the death of a five-month-old baby.
Now Sharina Anne Tuzo and Jermaine Noel Pearman, both of Bob's Valley, will return to the Supreme Court on October 1 for mention.
Tuzo, 18, and Pearman, 26, deny any wrong doing in the death of Saed Rami Nadir Young on August 29, last year.
Tuzo was the boy's godmother. She is charged with manslaughter while Pearman is charged with murder.
The pair appeared before Chief Justice Austin Ward in yesterday's monthly arraignment session.
Saed Young suffered a fractured skull and collarbone and was on a life support system for a short time before succumbing to his injuries.
In other araignments, a Devonshire man pleaded not guilty to importing cocaine with intent to supply, and possessing cocaine with intent to supply on May 9.
Calvin Eugene Kirkpatrick, 33, was also charged with handling the drug on May 9 with intent to supply.
Mr. Justice Ward extended Kirkpatrick's $1,000 bail and set the case down for mention on October 12.
Kirkpatrick, of Cedar Park Road, was represented by lawyer Richard Horseman.
And 21-year-old Kendricks Winslow Zuill pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply on April 15.
Zuill, of Two Way Mews, Parson's Road, Pembroke, was remanded in custody until sentencing on October 1 when a social inquiry report will be read.
His lawyer, Christopher LaVigne told Mr. Justice Ward his client had a clean record and asked for the report "so we can better understand where he is''.
Senior crown counsel Brian Calhoun said he would "look at'' three other charges of handling the cannabis, possessing cannabis, and possession of drug equipment, before Zuill is sentenced on October 1.
A mention hearing was set down for October 1 to set a trial date in the heroin possession trial of Roderick George Astwood.
Astwood, 42, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to possessing diamorphine with intent to supply on June 6. Mr. Justice Ward remanded him in custody.
