Bands will not be performing on Friday
on Friday on Reid Street because of conflicts with Christmas shopping.
In a prepared statement Mr. Bobby Rego president of the Chamber of Commerce, said that the event had to be rescheduled because retailers requested that Regiment band performances not be scheduled during evening Christmas shopping time.
This request was made last December to the Ministry of Tourism. Mr. Rego said that an evaluation of the 1994 Christmas shopping festival revealed that outdoor entertainment tended to keep traffic and shoppers out of stores, when the festival was specifically designed to ensure that street entertainment does not conflict with shopping hours.
Since an alternative time period could not be agreed to Mr. Rego said that the next Regiment Band and Bermuda Island Pipe Band performance will be sometime in January 1996.
