`Bermuda' aims to seduce vistors and dreamers
launched tomorrow.
"Bermuda'' is expected to be on local newstands in early May, but its main market is the United States and Canada.
Published by Bermuda Marketing Ltd., the magazine has an initial print run of 40,000 but publisher Mr. Ian Coles is looking to more than double that figure.
Editor Mr. Charles Barclay says "Bermuda'' is aimed at past and future visitors to the Island, but he said: "While we are aiming to seduce people into coming here, there is also a market for dreamers who buy this type of magazine.
"It is in the genre of destination magazines like Hawaii, Alaska and Arizona Highways, which sells a lot.'' The first glossy, picture-dominated issue contains a variety of articles. It includes a look at how the Island compares with its paradise image, its role in the American civil war and a photographic study of local church life "In God's Country''.
One interesting article is "Island Tales: The Quantum of Solace'' a Bermudian tale involving the legendary James Bond, written in 1960 by Ian Fleming.
Regular features include a colourful preview of upcoming events, a view of Bermudian property, the Island's nature, local food and restaurants and facts and figures and travel necessities.
Featured restaurants are the Cafe Lido at the Elbow Beach Hotel and the Black Horse Tavern, in St. David's.
Bermuda will be published quarterly. Mr. Coles said: "It has turned out better than we thought. Our distributors have international links which could see it sold in many countries throughout the world. We have a target of 100,000 distribution in the future.
"We are selling in the United States because 85 percent of our visitors come from there.'' BOOSTING BERMUDA -- "Bermuda'' Magazine will be launched this week by Bermuda Marketing Ltd.
