Bermuda day events praised
winners of the annual cycle race and marathon derby when they met on Friday.
Shadow Minister of Youth and Sport Dr. Ewart Brown singled out cycle race winner Mr. Wayman Butterfield, men's marathon winner Mr. Brett Forgesson and women's winner Ms Sandra Mewett.
Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul praised Bermuda Day organisers for "a very good set of harmonious activities''.
Ms Jennifer Smith said the Police Force was to be commended for using a Policewoman to lead their float which she said was in keeping with this year's theme.
Ms Smith congratulated the new members of the St. George's Corporation and wished Mr. Kenneth Bascome "better luck next time.'' St. George's South MP Mr. Richard Spurling congratulated St. George's Mayor the Wor. Henry Hayward on winning his third term.
Ms Smith also praised Spear Insurance Ltd. for donating 100 books to the Bermuda College Library and sent condolences to the family of the late Ms Silvia Geraldine Richardson.
Health Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness associated himself with the remarks made regarding Ms Richardson who he called "a stalwart of the nursing community''.
He sent congratulations to Mrs. Moira Tucker Cann on her retirement and said she had provided "yeoman's service to the Somerset community''. "She was the first black nurse to work at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital,'' he said.
"She was a trendsetter and a classmate.'' Community and Cultural Affairs Minister the Hon. Wayne Furbert sent congratulations to his former primary school principal Mrs. Roslyn Robinson who celebrated her 84th birthday.
She also taught several other MPs including the Rev. Trevor Woolridge, Ms Renee Webb, and the Hon. Maxwell Burgess.
Mr. John Barritt sent condolences to the family of the late Mr. Gilbert Perry.
He said Mr. Perry was a former railway worker who rose to the rank of inspector.
Mr. Barritt also congratulated the organisers of the Harbour Nights event.
Mr. Alex Scott congratulated Mr. Stephen Woodley on his recent scholarship at Howard University and Mr. Wayne Perinchief on his appoinment to Assistant Commissioner.
Ms Renee Webb congratulated Lt. Col. David Burch who recently took command of the Bermuda Regiment., "It's always a pleasure to see young black men rising to positions of responsibility'' she said.
Mr. Dennis Lister congratulated Mr. Angelo Mitchell who recently released his first album.
