Telecommunications Commission.

Opposition Leader Pamela Gordon revealed she had a name of a Bermudian who had been put forward for the role and would be passing it on to Telecommunications Minister Renee Webb.

And she said there was no conflict between her and UBP MP Gary Pitman, over the appointment of American Ellen Lim to the post. Ms Gordon had backed the position.

The Minister said she welcomed any suggestion of a replacement for Ms Lim, whose appointment prompted controversy, and looked forward to receiving the name of the man, who is said to be well qualified.

The Shadow Telecommunications Minister commended those who sat on the Board.

Ms Lim stepped into the breach when three Bermudians who had been lined up, backed down.

COX REVEALS MILLENNIUM PARTY EXPENDITURE HOA Cox reveals Millennium party expenditure Millennium celebrations are to cost Government chiefs $250,000 -- before the end of this month.

Finance Minister Eugene Cox told the House of Assembly yesterday that Government wanted to spend the cash before the end of this financial year.

And Tourism Minister David Allen said the money would pay for "developmental costs'' covering a year of celebrations in 2000.

He said the Bermuda Blast would not just cover Millennium Eve and the weekend from December 31 to January 2.

Mr. Allen claimed Bermuda could brace itself for big parties throughout the year 2000, right until New Year's Eve 2001, "when many people believe the new Millennium really begins''.

Members of Parliament also agreed to "supplementary estimate proposals'' worth $3 million, covering unforeseen costs at the end of the present financial year.

Mr. Cox said the cash included the Millennium preparation fund, $250,000 for ship repairs, $500,000 for two new fire engines, $500,000 for the new tourism advertising campaign and $138,000 for musical entertainment and visitor service bureaux at the Airport.
