Orlando Outerbridge, 24, was shot four times by police in Florida last summer after an alleged argument with his girlfriend.

Officers in the city of Melbourne said Mr, Outerbridge was armed with a knife when they were called to an incident last November.

Police claim he lunged at one of the policemen, who opened fire, wounding Outerbridge in the shoulder, back, right arm and chest.

Outerbridge -- who lives in Florida -- appeared before Judge Tonya Rainwater yesterday morning and pleaded not guilty.

It is understood that Outerbridge, whose father is Bishop Vernon Outerbridge, may face another charge of assault in an unconnected case.

The case at the area's County Court, is being prosecuted by Anita Winfough.

Outerbridge is being defended by David Arthur. The case continues.
