A Police spokesman said the boy hit his head on the dock yesterday afternoon as he jumped or fell from the world's smallest drawbridge, and rolled into the water badly injured.

According to witnesses, his two friends jumped in and pulled him to safety.

Police and emergency services arrived on the scene shortly after.

The Police spokesman said: "This is serious stuff and this incident might go to remind people just how dangerous this sort of thing can be. He added that, while a sign had been put up at the Somerset Bridge to warn people of the dangers, it had been taken down.
