Break-ins plague visitors, residents
guest house in the Salt Kettle area had $15 worth of various goods stolen on Saturday evening.
A ccording to Police, a guest was in the bathroom when someone reached through a window and started removing various items.
Break-ins also occurred at two separate homes along Radnor Road, Hamilton Parish, on Saturday.
In one instance, the occupants were asleep in the early morning hours when a thief gained entry through an open kitchen window.
Approximately $40 and various items were stolen from a purse. Sometime after, occupants in a second home were asleep when a thief stole $50 and credit cards from a wallet.
The thief gained entry through an unlocked window.
COSTLY BEER FOR WARWICK MAN CTS Costly beer for Warwick man A 27-year-old Warwick man pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to drinking liquor in public.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told the court that on February 19 at 4.45 p.m. Police saw Swain Lightbourne of Upland Lane drinking out of a paper bag at the Lines Food and Liquor Mart on Ord Road in Warwick.
When approached by the Police, Lightbourne walked into the store's parking lot and placed the bag on the ground. Officers picked up the bag and discovered it contained a bottle of beer.
When Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis asked if he had anything to say, Lightbourne replied: "I never even drank out of the beer bottle. I had just bought it. When I'm in the street I usually don't drink since I've been up on this type of charge before.'' Mr. Francis fined Lightbourne $100.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS MEDALIST VISITS OLY Special olympics medalist visits Bermuda was visited by Special Olympics gold medal winner Frank E. (Fes) Smurlo III last week.
Fes, who has been riding horses since he was eight, won two gold medals at the 1991 Special Olympics in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in equitation and working trails. He competed against athletes from all over the world.
In June of this year he participated in the dressage and equitation events at the Connecticut Special Olympics, held at Yale University. He won gold medals in both events.
While at home in Connecticut, Fes, 20, rides in the Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Programme for the mentally and physically handicapped at the Oxridge Hunt Club in Darien, Connecticut.
This was the second visit to Bermuda for Fes and his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank E. Smurlo Jr., of Old Greenwich, Connecticut. They stayed with friends in Tucker's Town.
BA JET MAKES DIVERSION HERE FLY BA jet makes diversion here A British Airways flight landed unexpectedly in Bermuda early yesterday morning.
The flight, en route to Gatwick Airport, England, from Montego Bay and Kingston, Jamaica, was forced to divert when a passenger complained of chest pains, said a British Airways spokesperson.
The plane landed at 5 a.m. and was met by King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and Navy ambulances.
The man, 64, was under observation at the hospital, accompanied by his wife.
He has a history of asthma.
Flight 264 left Bermuda at 6.07 a.m. and continued to London.
