Brothers assaulted man in his house, court told
bodily harm to a man they say assaulted their sister.
Gregory David Zuill, 26, Kenneth Larry Wade, 31, and Kujii Jomar Wade, 19, of Anchorage Road, St. George's have denied the charges.
Crown counsel Mr. Peter DeJulio told the Supreme Court that on October 4, 1993, Zuill, Kenneth Wade and Kujii Wade went to the residence of 43-year-old Michael King to get even with him.
He added: "It's not the issue of whether he got what he deserved, it's what they did to him.'' King sustained a gash to the head which required 18 stitches to close, a fractured rib, and a badly bruised right arm.
He took the stand and said that on October 4 he was at his home on Smith's Hill Road in St. David's with his now ex-girlfriend, who was then 32-years-old.
"Just after 9 a.m. we got into an argument,'' he said. "It was fiery.
"It resulted in me hitting her twice and shortly thereafter she left. I must say at this point, that it was not something that I am proud to have done.'' King also said that after the woman left, a friend of his came to his house to give him a ride to get some paint.
"About 15 to 20 minutes later, my ex-girlfriend's brother Gregory Zuill knocked on the door,'' King said.
He added: "I went to the door, partially dressed in just a pair of shorts, and let him in.
"Kenneth Wade and Kujii Wade made their way through the door behind Gregory.'' King said he asked Kenneth and Kujii to leave his house because "prior to this incident we never spoke and both of them were carrying weapons''.
He added: "Kujii Wade was carrying a three-foot long steel reinforcing rod and Kenneth Wade was carrying a piece of wood. I told Gregory that I would explain what happened if the other two left.
"But he told me that I must answer questions he asked in front of the other two and at that point Kujii began trying to poke me in the face with the rod.'' King continued: "Moments later, during the discussion with Gregory I turned to the side and I was struck by Kujii Wade on the right side of my head with the bar. I was dazed because I had a very bad injury to my head.
"After that I was beaten by Kenneth on my side with the wood which resulted in injury to my left side. I was beaten about my right arm with the reinforcing rod which left my arm badly bruised and I was beaten on the crown of my head.'' King also said he tried to get into his bedroom and lock the door but Kenneth Wade managed to push the door open because "I was very weak and had lost a lot of blood.
"I remember my friend calling the guys asking them what they were doing to me. He was on the couch in the living room. Sometime after the guys left my friend took me to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where they admitted me for two days for observation.
"I left the hospital in a lot of pain which effected my ability to work,'' King said.
When asked by Mr. Delroy Duncan, who represents Zuill, whether he had hit or kicked his ex-girlfriend on more than one occasion he replied: "I do not know if I kicked her before, it could have been a slap or a punch. I don't remember.'' King also said he was unaware that his ex-girlfriend went to the hospital after he hit her on a previous occasion.
The trial continues today before the Hon. Mr. Justice Meerabux. Kenneth Wade is being represented by Ms Keren Lomas and Kujii Wade is represented by Ms Elizabeth Christopher.
