$700 fine.

But the Wor. Will Francis refused the request by Coolridge Eve who faces nearly two more years in prison.

Eve, 34, of South Road, Southampton, pleaded with the magistrate to allow him to be released from prison before paying an outstanding fine of $700.

He is already in prison until November 1994, on breaking and entering charges.

But he was called into Magistrate's Court from Casemates yesterday because of non-payment of the fines, imposed for driving offences.

Eve told the magistrate: "Basically I need until 1995 to pay them. I am in custody until the end of 1994 and when I get out I can get a job and pay my fines.'' Mr. Francis said that the court had waited since November of 1992 for the fines to be paid and said that Eve must find a way to pay before he leaves jail. Otherwise, he said, he would face an extra 70 days added to his current sentence.

Eve added: "I have not been in a position to pay. If you cannot give me the opportunity to get released and then pay, then can I ask you to pay the money for me?'' An angry Mr. Francis refused and would not comment any further.
