sentences for similar offences hung over his head cost a St. George's man his liberty for the next 21 months yesterday.
Self-confessed alcoholic Shannon Mello, 28, of Great Bay Road, admitted breaking and entering Winston Woodley's home in Pembroke on February 15 and stealing five bottles of liquor $115.
Mello asked that an earlier theft on February 5 from the same residence be taken into consideration.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis revealed that Mello had two previous convictions for breaking and enterings which had seen him receive nine month jail sentences which were each suspended for two years.
He jailed Mello for 12 months on the new matters and activated the other sentences to run concurrently with one another and consecutively to the new term of imprisonment.
Mr. Francis added that he hoped Mello would be able to find help for his alcohol addiction "in some way or other'' while behind bars.
