Burglar's escape bid fell short
earlier this week.
Troy Robert Harris of Crisson Road, Pembroke, tried to flee Phil's Variety Store on King Street in Hamilton by jumping from a roof -- but he hurt his leg after falling 20 feet and was arrested.
Harris, 23, admitted breaking and entering with intent to steal and was remanded in custody by Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said that shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday, Police were called to the store by someone who witnessed a break-in.
Police saw Harris scramble out of the window, climb onto the roof and jump to the ground in an effort to escape. But he "injured his leg and was unable to run away'', Sgt. Kirby said.
Harris was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he admitted smashing the window to enter the store. He told Police he planned to steal clothing.
Harris, who has several previous convictions for breaking and entering and was on probation at the time of the offence, will be sentenced on April 20.
Mr. Francis requested a social inquiry report.
"I feel it's an alcohol problem that I've got,'' Harris told court.
