Lauren Chapman and her husband Benjamin celebrated their 40th anniversary in July while on a five night stay at the Reefs.

In a story headlined "A gift of Love'' in The Grosse Pointe News on July 30, Mrs. Chapman said it was hard to believe "this piece of paradise is three hours from home'' and it had taken them four decades to return.

The weekly has a circulation of about 15,000 and Mrs. Chapman contributes an opinion twice a month under a byline of Offering from the Left. The trip, a Christmas gift from their four children, was made most enjoyable due to the Bermudian people, she said.

"Life remains incredibly civil,'' she said of the Island. "Taxi drivers, bus drivers, wait staff were all kind, articulate, eager to be of assistance, and filled with delightful, playful humour.'' She wrote that on one occasion a departing bus driver bade passengers a good day before being relieved.

"No attitude adjustment necessary there,'' she wrote. "Just the simplicity of the golden rule.'' Mrs. Chapman had nothing but praise for the Reefs where she and her husband had ocean and pool views from their room.
