COSTLY GAMBLE CTS A 40-year-old Pembroke man was disqualified from driving all vehicles until January 16, 1994 and fined $350 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Marvin S. Lawrence of Pembroke was seen driving his motorcycle along North Shore Road. Police ran a check on his licence plate. They found he had been previously disqualified for six months for speeding at 55 kph.

He was followed and arrested.

"I was late for work so I took a gamble and I got caught,''Lawrence told the court.

SHOCK FOR DRIVER FIR A driver had a scare on Thursday when a fire suddenly broke out under the steering wheel of his truck while he was driving on Happy Valley Road near Fort Hamilton.

The man suffered slight burns to his hands as he tried to extinguish the flames.

The dashboard of the Nissan flatbed truck melted and its windshield cracked in the heat, a Fire Service spokesman said.

The cause was narrowed down to "an electrical fault in the vehicle's blower unit''.
