The 12,500 tonne Andra was towed into Dockyard yesterday morning for engineers to assess the extent of the breakdown, which crippled it 200 miles from the Island.

The outer edges of Hurricane Dennis are thought to have caught the Russian registered vessel enroute from Gulf Port, US to Latvia, leaving it dead in the water.

By chance a second vessel owned by the same company, the Frio Vladivostok , was in the area and sailed to assist.

It completed a dangerous operation, coming alongside the stricken ship and tying up, whilst using its generators to provide essential power to the Andra .

Yesterday, a tug, the Powhatan brought both ships into Bermuda, where they were split apart and eventually berthed in Dockyard.

The Andra is expected to remain for at least a week while repairs are carried out. At present the Frio Vladivostok is remaining alongside to give power to the vessel.
