in memory of the Hon. John Stubbs who died in August of cancer.
It will be the first tree memorial on the House grounds for a past serving Member.
Dr. Stubbs' wife Robyn and family had requested permission to plant the tree as a memorial to the Government backbencher, who last act in Parliament was steering through a Bill giving human rights to homosexuals.
The House and Grounds Committee considered the request and approved it, chairman Mr. Tim Smith announced on Friday.
Dr. Stubbs family has been informed and the memorial tree planting will take place on Monday.
It will be planted next to the two grown cedars on the southern slope of Parliament Hill, he said. The ceremony takes place at 10.30 a.m.
