Conman jailed for three years
was jailed for three years yesterday.
Maxwell Roberts, 26, of Granaway Heights, Southampton, stole the cheques from Aircare, Hamilton, and cashed them for more than $24,000, spending some of the money at the Dorchester Hotel.
Roberts was arrested on returning to Bermuda and admitted forging and stealing the cheques.
He appeared in Supreme Court yesterday for sentencing. Puisne Judge the Hon.
Mr. Justice Ground told him the seriousness of the offences, the large amounts involved and Roberts' failure to learn from previous suspended sentences left him no alternative but to impose a jail sentence.
Ms Keren Lomas, defending, said Roberts had a successful career in catering, but gave it up and went into construction. He suffered emotional problems and went astray.
