Progressive Labour Party environment activist Danny Farias has claimed syringes have been found at sewage outlets.

But Corporation of Hamilton Secretary Roger Sherratt said: "We treat our sewage until it's chopped up into little bits.

"There is no way a syringe could come from the Corporation -- maybe from a cruise ship but not from the Corporation.

"He also said we are using a chemical to treat our sewage which is a danger to marine life.

"But we are at a loss even to know what this chemical is. We basically don't know what Mr. Farias is talking about.''
