during an argument will be sentenced in Magistrates' Court on October 14.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis ordered a social inquiry report yesterday after hearing that Laurie J. Furbert, 23, left her baby girl in her stroller to chase after the child's father Takiyah Thomas, 18, who walked off during an argument.

Furbert, of Sun Valley, Warwick and Thomas, of Crawl Hill, Hamilton Parish, both pleaded guilty to wilfully neglecting their daughter for an unreasonable amount of time without making appropriate provisions for the child.

Prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Police responded around 2 p.m. to a report that a child was left unattended outside of the Woman's Shop on Reid Street on July 27.

"When Police arrived on the scene they found the crying infant left in the stroller unattended in the blazing sun,'' Sgt. Mouchette said.

Furbert -- who had care of the child that weekend -- walked off during the argument with Thomas.

Sgt. Mouchette said: "She was angry. And she followed him leaving the child.'' Both parents told Police they took full responsibility for the incident.
