Cyclist, 16, hurt in collision

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said the accident occurred just before 2.30 p.m. on Sunday on Middle Road, Devonshire.

A 16-year-old was travelling west and rounding the bend near Parson's Lane when his cycle collided with a car turning right on the same road.

The driver of the car, a 68-year-old Smith's Parish woman, was not seriously injured, Mrs. James Barnett said.

But the cycle rider has been kept at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

BA'S FLIGHT OF FANCY FLY BA's flight of fancy An 11-hour delay in the departure of a British Airways flight on the weekend was well worth the wait.

According to local deputy manager Marianne Wilcox, passengers flew in comfort after the scheduled DC10 aircraft was replaced by the larger 747 aeroplane.

This, she said, was owing to a problem with aircraft availability at Gatwick Airport in London.

The 747 aircraft arrived in Bermuda on time at 5.50 p.m. on Saturday, Ms Wilcox explained. But the crew could not be relieved by the DC10 crew and required mandatory rest.

As a result, the 210 passengers were either re-routed via Boston on Delta Air Lines or accommodated in nearby hotels until Sunday morning. The BA flight departed around 7 a.m.

Ms Wilcox noted that passengers had the choice.

"People (who took the BA flight on Sunday) were pleased they had more room,'' she added.

Premier Pamela Gordon, who was scheduled to travel to the UK via the US, even changed her plans and flew on BA.

SECURITY PAYS OFF CRM Security pays off Security measures thwarted a Hamilton Parish man's weekend crime spree.

Police yesterday reported that the 47-year-old stole tools from the old Lines Brothers building on Church Street and tried to break into several Front Street businesses on Saturday evening.

His hit list included Transitions, Astwood Dickinson's, Makin' Waves, and Carole Holdings Studios.

But Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said alarm activations, window bars, and other security devices prevented most of the man's attempts.

Police caught up with the man in the Parliament Street area the next day after he had apparently slept in one of the empty office buildings.

Mrs. James Barnett said: "He was walking north on Parliament Street, wearing a stolen shirt, when he was spotted by the owner of the shirt who accompanied by another member of the public was able to detain him.'' Police attended the scene and arrested the man on suspicion of office breaking.

The man parked the taxi outside his Aubrey Road, Hamilton Parish home with all of the doors secured, except the rear. It was later discovered that a bank bag containing an undisclosed quantity of cash had been stolen sometime during the night.

A neighbour found the bag, but the cash had been removed.
