Cyclist `Lucky to be alive'
months after refusing to take a breathalyser test.
Magistrates' Court heard that the offence occurred on October 15 when Police officers spotted Trevor Dickinson, of Tween Walls, driving a Yamaha motorcycle north past the Naval Field. The cycle had no lights and he was not wearing a crash helmet.
Police followed him to Cambridge Road where they saw him swerve onto the wrong side of the road. He continued driving through a No Entry sign and stopped at his residence.
His eyes were glazed and he seemed unsteady on his feet. He was arrested under suspicion of impaired driving. At Somerset Police station he refused to take a breathalyser test.
"You are lucky even to be alive to see this day,'' magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp said. "Many people don't get that chance. It was irresponsible for you to consider driving after you had been drinking.''
