The Corporation of Hamilton recently handed its final plans to the Development Applications Board.
Corporation secretary Mr. Roger Sherratt said the proposed car park would be a huge boost for motorists.
"It would provide space for 700 cars,'' he said.
Meanwhile, motorists will now have to pay a dollar a day to use the Bulls Head and Elliott Street/Dundonald Street car parks.
The pay-and-display scheme was introduced yesterday.
It would be in force every day except Sundays and public holidays, said Mr.
Sherratt.
"People will be able to use the car park all day for just a dollar. It is a very cheap rate,'' he added.
