Dangerous driving proves painful

Veronica Gordon, prosecuting, told the court Johnson was overtaking a car on a bend close to Tee Street when the accident happened.

He sustained a broken leg, fractured wrist and other injuries. The car driver suffered abrasions.

During the accident the bike was extensively damaged. In addition the car's windscreen was smashed.

Johnson, 26, of Town House Drive, Paget, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

When asked by Magistrate Will Francis, Johnson had nothing to say.

He was fined $450.

A second speeding offence within the last two years cost a Warwick man a $400 fine.

Richard Daisley, 23, of Coral Hill Lane, yesterday pleaded guilty to speeding at 64 km. In addition, he admitted to driving an unlicenced vehicle with no drivers licence.

In his defence, Daisley said his drivers licence was paid for by his employers, BTC, and he was under the impression it was to last for ten years.

Miss Gordon said the previous speeding offence involved a speed of 67 km and a fine of $500.

Magistrate Will Francis imposed a conditional discharge for having no driving licence.

Daisley was fined $900 for having an unlicensed vehicle. He was fined $400 for speeding and disqualified from driving for six months.
