Dolphins get Bermudian names
names.
Michelle Hammond of Dolphin Quest said yesterday announced that the seven dolphins will be known as Bailey, Gibbs, Cirrus, Riddells, Dolber, Caliban and Khyber.
With more than 5,000 entries were received, Ms Hammond said the company was thrilled with the overwhelming response.
"With so many entries the decision was difficult,'' she said.
Bailey, a seven-year-old female, was named after Bailey's Bay and was described as a mellow dolphin who loves to be touched.
Twenty-year-old Gibbs, who likes to play tag with the females around the cove, was named after Gibbs Hill Lighthouse.
Ms Hammond said 20-year-old Cirrus, named after a type of cloud found around Bermuda, enjoyed being touched by her human friends.
The eldest of the bunch, a 32-year-old female, was given named Riddells after Riddell's Bay.
Meanwhile Dolber, created from the first three letters in dolphin and Bermuda, at 31 continuously plays with her toys.
The name Caliban -- for the character in Shakespeare's The Tempest -- was given to an active three-year-old female while Khyber, named for Khyber Pass, was given to an energetic four-year-old male.
Ms Hammond said the people who submitted the winning names were invited to meet the dolphins at a special event tomorrow at the Southampton Princess.
