DPP job may be filled in autumn
Deputy Governor Tim Gurney said yesterday.
Mr. Gurney declined to be specific on why the process of appointing a Director of Public Prosecutions was taking so long.
But he added that the process was still moving along and added that it was hoped an announcement would be made after the summer break.
The need for an English-style DPP arose after the Progressive Labour Party made Dame Lois Browne Evans the first political Attorney General in modern times after the party's General Election victory last year.
The DPP will handle criminal work, while Dame Lois will act as legal advisor to Cabinet and handle civil cases brought against Government.
A separation of civil and criminal work is needed to avoid suggestion of political bias in criminal prosecution.
