has been fined $400 and disqualified from driving for a year.

But the ban won't affect 46-year-old James Anthony who has already left the Island.

Anthony, who was employed at Newstead guest house on Harbour Road, Paget, pleaded guilty to speeding at 60 kph on June 2, 1990. But he denied making a false statement to Police.

The court heard that he gave Police the wrong name when he was stopped on South Road, Warwick in 1990.

But Anthony, who left Bermuda shortly after receiving the speeding ticket, said he gave Police correct information.

"Because I did not have my licence with me, the Police officer wrote down the name of the owner of the car, who was my roommate,'' he said.

Anthony argued that for two months after leaving Bermuda he was in constant contact with Police prosecutions to clear up the matter.

And in court he stressed that although he was not guilty of making a false statement, he would plead guilty because he only had one day on the Island and therefore wanted to have the matter dealt with immediately.

Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Anthony $100 for making a false statement and $300 for speeding at 60 kph.
