Driver lands in the dock
appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Troy Robert Andrew Harris, 31, of Crisson Avenue, was charged with driving an unlicensed and uninsured car, driving while impaired and refusing a breath test.
Harris was travelling west on North Shore Road when he struck another car at the junction of Swan Bay Hill last month.
When Police arrived, they noticed that Harris appeared to be drunk, but when asked if he had been drinking, he said no.
The Police then asked him to take a breath test to which he said: "F*** off.
F*** you.'' When he was taken to Hamilton Police Station, he refused to take the breath test for a second time.
Harris told the court the car was unlicensed and uninsured but he was not drunk.
He pleaded guilty to the charges of driving an unlicensed and uninsured car and refusing a breath test. He was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for 12 months. He will return to court in June to face the charges of impaired driving.
