Driver who ran stop sign gave false name
to Police who apprehended him, Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.
Gregory Leslie Trott, of Middle Road, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and driving while disqualified.
Trott was spotted by Police on January 16 around 1.20 a.m. driving a car on King Street, Hamilton, when he ignored a stop sign.
When Police stopped him, he gave his name as Gregory Leslie DeSilva of Warwick, and said a "Gregory Trott'' owned the car and had allowed him to drive it.
A Police check revealed that Gregory Trott and Gregory DeSilva were the same person.
"I know that sometimes some of you fellows get confused,'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said. "You are lucky the Police went easy on you and did not charge you with making a false statement.'' Mr. Francis then fined Trott $300 and disqualified him from all vehicles for 12 months. He did not impose a fine for disobeying the stop sign because Trott had paid the fixed penalty before his court appearance.
Trott also pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention on February 20.
Sgt. Kenrick James, prosecuting, said Trott was driving a car south on Par La Ville Road towards the traffic lights. The light had turned red and a car and motorcycle were waiting for it to change.
Trott ran into the motorcycle which then struck the car.
Mr. Francis fined him $250.
