Mr. Cox took over the position from his father in 1972 and said he had thoroughly enjoyed interacting with Dutch and other foreign representatives.
"I liked the idea of having something to do in Bermuda that was not purely Bermudian,'' he said.
Mr. Cox was also granted a Dutch knighthood in 1992.
William F. P. Mulder, of the Zurich Insurance Company, will succeed Mr. Cox as the local Dutch consul.
