North Village almost celebrated too soon on the way to their second win of the season last night.

Having dominated the Islanders throughout their First Division clash at PHC Stadium, Village looked firmly in command after Michael Hansey had put them 3-0 ahead 18 minutes into the second half.

But there was no quit in St.David's, playing just their second First Division game since being promoted last season.

Substitute Lionel Cann brought them back into the game thanks to some lazy marking and a long cross from the left wing in 67th minute. Cann converted from 15 yards out with the defence left standing.

That goal gave St. David's new life and it was followed by two more fine opportunities in the next 15 minutes.

St. David's also got some help from referee Lyndon Raynor who handed Village's Kevin Jennings the red card after 73 minutes. Jennings' use of foul language left his side with 10 men for remainder of game but St. David's were unable to capitalise.

As they had throughout the game, the Village back three of Hansey, Irving Romaine and Randy Spencer slammed the door on any St. David's hopes.

Stingy defence made life easy for Village goalkeeper Nyon Steede.

After a sloppy beginning, Village went in front on 25 minutes when Richard Wilson caught everyone by surprise, looping a 30-yard shot over 'keeper Kuhn Evans who was caught well off his line.

Ten minutes later Nakia Smith got another goal out of nothing as he was able to run onto an Elliot Jennings' cross into the middle.

Village carried that momentum into the second half and forced Evans into several good saves before Hansey finally broke through with a quick give and go from Elliott Jennings.

Village only had 10 men at the time as Spencer was receiving treatment for an ankle injury on the sidelines.
