Education officials put final touches on senior curriculum
Education officials are finalising details on implementing the first year of the new senior school curriculum.
The senior one courses, which are to be taught at CedarBridge Academy and Berkeley Institute from September, will include the core subjects -- English, Mathematics, Sciences, and Social Studies -- as well as at least one performing art, design and technology or family studies, business studies, computer studies, and a foreign language.
Curriculum coordinator Gina Tucker told The Royal Gazette the curriculum for the other years were in the process of being written and anyone who wished to give input should contact the curriculum advisory committees at the Education Department.
"They can speak to education officers in charge of specific subjects,'' Dr.
Tucker explained.
She added that senior school students will be allowed to participate in four curriculum pathways -- arts and communication; applied technologies; health and human services; and international business and tourism.
"So within each pathway the student will complete the required courses to earn the senior school certificate,'' Dr. Tucker noted.
"At this point there isn't a title confirmed for the new certificate. It is still being worked on.'' Students at Berkeley and CedarBridge are currently following a curriculum geared for the modified Bermuda Secondary School Certificate.
Anyone wishing to give input on the new curriculum can call Dr. Tucker on 236-6904 ext. 388.
