Electromagnetic radiation: what are the health hazards?
The November issue of rg magazine -- available free only with tomorrow's issue of The Royal Gazette -- features fashion, travel and the health hazards of electromagnetic radiation.
Senior writer John Burchall takes a look at whether the modern technology we love so much is making us sick. With our dependency on electricity, we are exposed to vastly greater amounts of radiation on a daily basis than our grandparents were. What is not known is what the effects of long-term exposure to low-level radiation from things like microwave ovens and mobile phones are on the human body. They simply haven't been around long enough.
In his story Waves of Concern, Burchall takes a look at what we're exposed to and why more people are getting concerned about it. In particular, he focuses on the concern over mobile phones and the towers and transmitters that allow them to work.
This month's rg also features an exciting fashion spread featuring Bermudian model Amir on location in New York City modelling leather clothes and accessories designed by himself, fellow local designer Amethyst and American designer Anton, who designs outfits for some of the biggest names in showbiz.
There's also a special profile of the fascinating European Princess Francesca Thyssen, one of the central figures in the family feud that is being played out in Bermuda's courtrooms, and rg 's annual Travel special takes readers on some adventurous journeys to the Amazon jungle, Alaska and the Australian outback.
It's all in November's rg and you can only get it with tomorrow's Royal Gazette -- don't forget to pick up your copy! HEALTH HTH
