James Fray, of Devon Springs Road, Pembroke, was fined $500 in Magistrates' Court for stealing cash from the company till on May 21.

The cashier had left the till unattended and when she later counted the cash, she discovered that there was $250 missing. Surveillance tapes showed Fray committing the offence.

The court heard that Fray needed the money to pay court fines and so his unemployed mother could pay her bills.
