Ex-Mountie Lemay gets his man!
Island action at the weekend.
For the Deputy Commissioner Jean-Jacques Lemay got involved in a scuffle as officers arrested two men in connection with a suspected drugs deal on Sunday night.
Mr. Lemay said yesterday: "It was a bit of a ruckus -- there were two individuals involved.
"One didn't want to be arrested so he put up a bit of a fight -- it's not something I'm not used to.'' The incident happened at an East End restaurant and bar after the former Ch.
Supt. in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police went on patrol with officers from St. George's.
Mr. Lemay said: "It's probably rare for a Deputy Commissioner to get involved in that kind of thing -- but it gave me a pretty good insight in regard to policing late at night.'' He added: "I intend to go out again, but I will probably go out with different units so I can get a better appreciation of what they are doing.'' Mr. Lemay added that he had also taken part in giving first aid after a road accident in Somerset on Saturday afternoon -- after he had successfully completed the day's 10K race.
And he was out on patrol with officers from the Hamilton Police station on Saturday night.
Mr. Lemay said he had a busy work schedule during the week -- but was able to spend time with the officer in the street at weekends.
Two men were arrested in connection with an alleged drugs offence at the New Mount restaurant and bar in St. David's at the weekend. Police investigations are continuing and the two are expected to appear in court in due course.
