Kiwan K. Butterfield, 17, of Ratteray Lane, Sandys, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court to assaulting principal Melvyn Bassest on June 29 at the Sonesta Beach Hotel.

Butterfield allegedly attacked Mr. Bassett -- in front of a room full of parents, teachers, and relatives of Sandys Secondary graduates -- after his name was not called during last year's graduation ball.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis granted Butterfield bail in the sum of $500 plus a surety and ordered him to return for trial on June 30.

Butterfield is represented by lawyer Archibald Warner.
