Government drinking water.

Family member Ms Janice Swainson, said that after drinking the water the family have had continuous health problems.

Her youngest son experienced diarrhoea and colic.

The Swainsons are seeking damages from the Ministry of Health and Social Services for $2.5 million, and the Department of Works and Engineering for $2.5 million.

At the time that they claim to have started to suffer from health problems, the family was living near the Water Distillation Plant property on North Shore Road, Devonshire.

Ms Swainson said that her youngest child's immune system had been badily damaged.

"He continues to have infection after infection'', she said. "Some of the infections are unable to be cured by normal antibiotics.'' Ms Swainson also said that there had been little sensitivity as far as the Government was concerned.

"There have been no phone calls to inquire how the little one is doing after he had been diagnosed with Salmonella B the same thing that was found in the drinking water supplied by Government,'' she said.

Ms Swainson accused Health Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness of being "unconcerned, cold and insensitive''.

"I was having a conversation with him a couple of weeks ago and I told him we were the family that had been poisoned by Government and no concern was shown.

"His reply was abruptly `So what are you doing about it'.'' Ms. Swainson said she was shocked and told him that he seemed very cold and uncaring.

"We have had lots of concern from (Progressive Labour Party MP) Mr. Nelson Bascome and (United Bermuda Party candidate) Mr. Charlie Marshall as to how the familiy is doing.

"Sir John Swan, who most of the time is sensitive, was also concerned.'' Ms.

Swainson said a broke water pipe which allowed sewage to enter the tank because the sewage overflow was next to the tank and there was a bid's nest in the pipe.
