Father denies sexual exploitation of child

The Sandys man pleaded not guilty to the sexual exploitation a young person by a person in a position of trust and attempted incest during the monthly arraignment session in the Supreme Court yesterday.

The alleged incident took place on April 3 last year and involved his daughter, who was under the age of 14 at the time.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was released on $1,500 bail, with a surety in like sum, to return for mention on October 1.

In other cases, Raymond O'Brien Rogers, of Hamilton Parish, denied being armed with a knife and robbing a woman of $500 on April 1. Meanwhile Orion Llewellyn Thomas denied the single charge of supplying a controlled drug on April 18 of this year. Both men had their matters adjourned until October 1.

Accused attempted murderer Micah Straw of Devonshire had his trial set to commence today in the Supreme Court.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Straw was accused of causing grievous bodily harm, unlawful bodily harm, and possessing an offensive weapon.

It is alleged that last August, Straw assaulted 36-year-old Andre Rawlins near Devonshire Recreational Club.

Lakeisha Burgess, 29, of Paget, also had her Supreme Court drugs trial set for this morning.

Burgess has denied having diamorphine -- a heroin derivative -- between May and August, 1995. She has further denied supplying the drug and handling it with intent to supply.

Also appearing in the monthly arraignment session was Randall Walker, 36, of Pembroke, who pleaded not guilty to murdering Brownlow Place, at a house in Marsh Folly Road in October last year.

Walker was remanded in custody for mention on October 1.

Southampton man Glenn Robinson, accused of causing the death of former Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs Ernest Owen, also appeared for mention.
