Faulty machine alerts firefighter to hotel
fires and a hotel where smoke was billowing from a faulty dishwashing machine.
Three vehicles from the St. George's Fire Brigade responded to a brush fire next to the Gunpowder Tavern around 6.20 p.m. on Saturday.
The blaze, which was confined to a 12-foot square patch of land, was quickly extinguished. No other damage was reported.
Later that same evening, two trucks responded to a call from Sonesta Beach Hotel, where a dishwasher was billowing smoke.
Only minor smoke damage was reported.
In the early hours of Sunday morning another brush fire was reported, this time in Smith's Parish.
Firemen who arrived on the scene on South Shore Road found a pile of trash burning in a vacant lot next to Phase One Video.
Meanwhile a pot on a stove that caught fire sent firefighters racing to a house in St. John's Hill, Spanish Point, yesterday. The house suffered only minor damage.
