Former Policeman called to the bar
engineer but none of these jobs gave him the personal fulfilment he desired.
But on Monday in the presence of friends, family and colleagues, Mr. Michael Cornelius Telemaque was called to the Bermuda Bar by Puisne Judge the Hon. Mr.
Justice Ward.
Born in St. Vincent, Mr. Telemaque attended the University of London and undertook further studies at Hugh Wooding's law school in Trinidad between 1991 and 1993.
He received his legal education certificate to practise as a barrister and solicitor by the East Caribbean States Supreme Court this year.
Before pursuing his legal studies Mr. Telemaque, of Cobbs Hill, Paget, worked as a technician for Holmes, Williams and Purvey and Arctic Air Conditioning.
From 1972-74 the father-of-two worked as a Police officer in Bermuda. "I am very happy to be called as a barrister in Bermuda,'' he said. "It was a long road for me to travel.'' Thanking his wife and children for enduring the hard times, and his colleagues in the Police Force, Mr. Telemaque vowed to maintain the high standards of the Bermuda Bar.
He will be working with the law firm of Lord, Simmons and Warner.
Meanwhile, the Island's courts will become "home'' to second member of a well known Bermudian family now that Mr. Carlsen Eugene Philip has been called to the Bar.
Mr. Philip's brother, Mr. Anthony Philip, was called to the Bar earlier this year.
Both are sons of Sen. Ira Philip and Mrs. Ismay Philip, one of Bermuda's outstanding soloists.
Mr. Carlsen Philip was educated at West End Primary School and Charminade College School in Toronto.
He began his university education at the University of Western Ontario, later transferring to Jackson State University, Mississippi. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1981.
During those college years he was an outstanding athlete, representing Bermuda in major competition including the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Canada.
In 1986 Mr. Philip graduated from the University of Kent in England with a BA honours in Law.
Earlier this year he was successful in completing the Bar finals at the Council of Legal Education in Jamaica, and was called to the Bar of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court on September 13.
His previous legal experience includes summer employment at Richards, Francis and Francis, the Attorney General's Chambers and Vaucrosson's law offices, where he is now permanently employed.
In 1987 he married Miss Chrislyn Caines. They have two children, Carlsen II, aged two, and Cara Samantha, aged 10 months.
