The victim was walking on Angle Street with a friend around 7.15 p.m. on Tuesday when he was set upon by a group of youths who kicked and beat him.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said the youth was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, with head and facial injuries, by a passing motorist.

The motive for the attack was not known.
