The American, who held the post with Wyndham Resorts for 15 months, resigned for personal reasons last week, Mr. Jefferis said.

The resignation was in no way related to the ongoing dispute between the hotel management and the BIU, he said.

SIMONS TO MEET NATIONAL TRUST CHIEF ENV Simons to meet national trust chief Environment Minister the Hon. Gerald Simons is to meet National Trust officials on Wednesday to discuss new regulations to the Clean Air Act and other concerns.

In a news release yesterday, Mr. Simons said he hoped the meeting with Trust president Mr. David L. White and other officials would allow him to hear Trust concerns and "establish a better working relationship between our two organisations.

"During this meeting, officials of the Ministry will present to the Trust some of the details of the Clean Air Regulations which are currently before the Legislature,'' he said.

"In addition, attention is likely to be focused on other areas in which the Ministry and the Trust have a mutual concern, such as conservation and the preservation of historic buildings.'' The Clean Air regulations were passed in the House of Assembly on Wednesday but have yet to clear the Senate.

The Trust has been critical of Government for its lack of prior consultation.

Orientation for the contest will take place at the at the Blue Water Anglers Club on East Broadway, Hamilton, at 6 p.m. this evening.

This will mean girls can enter and give their full particulars to the organisers of Miss Bermuda Islands.

Organiser Mr. Terry Smith said that this will be the final deadline for the prestigious competition which takes place on Sunday, August 29.

As usual it will take place at the Southampton Princess before an audience. It is expected to be televised.

The present title holder is Miss Diana Mitchell who took part in last year's Miss World contest in Sun City.

SPANISH SAILOR IS SERIOUSLY INJURED AC A crew member from a Liberian bulk carrier was evacuated to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Spanish man was seriously injured when he fell 18 feet down a hatch aboard the mv Rossini , Harbour Radio reported yesterday.

The westbound ship was 700 miles east of Bermuda when the US Coast Guard in New York dispatched a plane with "para-jumpers'' at about midnight on Thursday, the spokesman said.

The trained paramedics jumped with parachutes into the water near the ship, then were taken aboard.

They stabilised the man and the ship sped to within 100 miles of Bermuda.

A US Navy helicopter took the man aboard and landed at Prospect Field just before 2 p.m. on Saturday as the Bermuda Fire Service stood by.

WORKSHOPS SCHEDULED FOR TEACHERS CON Workshops scheduled for teachers Educators will return to the classroom this week to learn a variety of teaching strategies.

Day-long workshops, designed by the Education Department, will be held at the department's Church Street offices from today to Friday.

During the workshops 29 teachers will learn how "a thematic unit is developed and integrated across the curriculum''.

Teachers will be challenged with tasks on their own level, but will be encouraged to think about applications to their students, senior education office Dr. Joseph Christopher said.

"The session will be presented by staff who have specialised in different subject areas,'' he added.

"It is envisaged that teachers will return to the classroom with a clear idea how to develop any thematic unit and be aware of all the resources available to them.'' FIRST SUMMER FAIR AT HMS MALABAR EVL First summer fair at HMS Malabar HMS Malabar will open its gates to the public for its first summer fair on Saturday. The Royal Navy establishment on Ireland Island will be holding the fair on the Moresby Plain sports ground in Dockyard.

Commanding Officer Cdr. Robin Bawtree said: "There will be many of the usual games for children including computer games, a coconut shy, a fun castle and face painting. Also there will be pony rides, pony trap rides, a fire engine to view and Sparky the Fire Brigade mascot.''
