Governor meets former Dockyard staff

Governor Thorold Masefield on a tour of Royal Naval Dockyard.

The four elderly residents returned to their old places of work to explain to the Governor how things were when they worked at the West End harbour in the 1930s and 40s.

And it turned out to be an emotional day, filled with lots of nostalgia, for old workers Sidney Ruberry, Kenneth Young, Bishop Norris Dickinson and Hilton Wingood.

Chairman of the West End Development Corporation and Government Minister Walter Lister invited Mr. Masefield and his wife Jenny to spend the morning at Dockyard, before having lunch at Commissioner's House.

Mr. Lister said: "The Governor is a great lover of Dockyard so we invited him to have a look around.'' Trip down memory lane: Chairman of WEDCO Walter Lister (left) and Governor Thorold Masefield (centre) chat to former workers on a tour of Dockyard yesterday.
