Ground hits the headlines!
A story in last Tuesday's newspaper incorrectly stated that former Supreme Court Puisne Judge Richard Ground is Chief Justice of the Cayman Islands. He is Chief Justice of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Former Bermuda judge Richard Ground has hit the headlines in his new job as Chief Justice of the Cayman Islands.
The Chief Justice halted the trial of a man charged with possession of cannabis and intent to supply after two jurors were seen getting into the same taxi as the accused and his main defence witness at the end of the first day of the trial.
According to the Turks and Caicos Free Press, Chief Justice Ground said: "I'm not going to embarrass the jurors concerned by naming them, but there may have to be an investigation into this and the police may wish to interview you about what occurred.'' The then-Mr. Justice Ground left Bermuda in the summer for a new posting as the top judge in the Caymans.
He joined former Bermuda Deputy Governor John Kelly, now Governor of the British Overseas Territory.
