without a hitch.

Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt said: "The first morning went very well. The level of cooperation from the public on the first day was excellent and I hope it continues.'' Vehicles entering Hamilton from the west side of the city were stopped and given traffic circulation forms as part of the survey being conducted by UK firm, Symonds Travers Morgan.

The "vast majority'' accepted them, he continued, with the end result being that about 2,000 cards were handed out.

"Hopefully we will get them all back,'' he added, noting that some people had already mailed their responses in.

Motorists are asked to complete the form and mail it in no later than October 16. Stamps are not required and all participants are eligible to win a prize draw of $100, $50, and $25 voucher.

Questions include: "How many people were travelling in or on your vehicle? Where did you park your vehicle? What type of vehicle were you travelling in or on? and What route did you take as you travelled within the City to your destination?'' Mr. Sherratt added: "I would ask the public, as they are approaching the people handing out the cards, to wind down their windows. This will probably mean that they don't even have to stop to collect a card.'' The survey is the first detailed traffic study of Hamilton in the last 25 years and its findings will be included in the new city plan.
