Hi-tech security system for Saltus
safety drive.
A network of CCTV cameras have been positioned around the campus in a bid to ensure the 1,037 pupils and 100 plus staff remain secure during school hours.
And the tapes are running 24 hours a day to protect the premises from vandals and would-be thieves during out of school hours. They would complement an existing electronic security system.
Saltus director of development Dan Blagg said the cameras were at strategic locations around the school, so anyone entering the site could be captured on tape.
During term time, they would be used to deter any undesirable people from trying to gain access to the school. He said the move was part of concerns over safety, although there had not been any incidents of trespassers during school hours.
There had been several break-in attempts and the new cameras would not only deter trespassers, but would also be useful for Police when trying to identify culprits.
"There have been concerns about people who shouldn't be around schools, we haven't had any incidents, and this will help deter anybody who is thinking about it,'' said Mr. Blagg.
In addition the school has created a new entrance after fears over cars causing congestion on St. John's Road. The new entry will make it safer for parents picking up and delivering their children.
