His House hopes to go west for new residence
A drug treatment centre forced out of its home in Hamilton Parish is hoping to find new premises shortly.
But the His House Ministries will need to rely on support from the Government before it can set up again in the new accommodation.
The residential charity was forced to close its centre in Sleepy Hollow earlier this year at the request of the landlord.
The new accommodation is owned by the West End Development Corporation at the former Royal Navy base at HMS Malabar.
Last night His House director Christine Atcheson said that although the charity could not afford the rent being asked by Wedco -- a Government quango -- she was hopeful that a deal could be struck between the two parties if Government intervened.
Now Development and Opportunities Minister Terry Lister is due to meet with the charity's bosses to start negotiations.
"Wedco are asking a very high rent for the property and as a charity we just can't afford it,'' Mrs. Atcheson said.
"But we are still hopeful and I am now trying to set up a meeting with Terry Lister and negotiate something with the Government and Wedco.
"At the moment all of our clients are in temporary accommodation. They are all located with families but it's only temporary.'' Last night Mr. Lister could not be contacted to discuss the issue.
And Wedco chairman and fellow PLP MP Walter Lister refused to discuss the latest development.
But Health Minister Nelson Bascome confirmed Government was doing all it could to get the home up and running once again.
"I know that we have helped to look for properties but we weren't sure what the rent would be,'' Mr. Bascome said. "But I have asked that they speak to the Minister of Development and Opportunity to negotiate a feasible rent.''
