Hospital Board sheds light on resignation of facilities manager
The Bermuda Hospitals Board has lashed out at the local media for what it called "inaccurate and irresponsible'' reporting.
The Board was responding to a story on Thursday night's ZBM evening news and in Friday's edition of The Royal Gazette which voiced the opinion of United Bermuda Party MP Allan Marshall who asked why a senior member of the BHB suddenly left his post.
ZBM reported that Facilities Management director Neil Crane was sacked -- although the broadcast also said a hospital memo said he had resigned.
A BHB press release yesterday explained: "On Wednesday, October 27, Mr. Crane tendered his resignation to the Acting CEO Lucille Parker Swan.
"At no time was Mr. Crane under investigation. The BHB accepted his resignation and wished him well with his future endeavours.'' Royal Gazette Editor Bill Zuill said the newspaper's story was neither inaccurate nor irresponsible.
"We checked on the claims reported on ZBM and went to Mr. Crane for response -- which was that he had certainly not been dismissed,'' Mr. Zuill said.
"That is responsible reporting, regardless of what the Hospitals Board says.''
