Department of Immigration has taken out advertising for job seekers in the sector.

Chief Immigration Officer Martin Brewer said the department projects there will be a shortfall of more than 1,000 jobs left unfilled by Bermudians this year.

"With the number of construction jobs going on and those getting started we expect a significant shortfall,'' Mr. Brewer said. "We're still going to need foreign workers. The pool of Bermudian workers seems to have dried up.'' Mr. Brewer said this is the first time the Department has had to advertise for construction workers. The Department is also trying to provide information to reduce the time workers who have finished on one site spend looking for the next job.

The advertisement states the industry needs workers including foremen, tilers, masons, welders, rod tiers, carpenters, pipe fitters, steel erectors and dry wall technicians.
