Knife-wielding thugs robbing people on bikes
One, a visiting 22-year-old student, told Police he was riding his livery cycle east along Front Street on Thursday around 8 p.m. when he was approached by two men also riding on a motorcycle.
While waiting at the traffic lights opposite Number Six dock on Front Street, the pillion passenger on the other motorcycle produced a six-inch blade and told the complainant to keep riding.
Fearing for his life, the complainant rode alongside the men until they instructed him to turn into the western entrance of Warwick Long Bay on South Shore Road.
Once there, the victim was told to hand over an undisclosed sum of money. He complied and the robbers threw his bike key onto the beach area.
The uninjured victim then hailed a taxi and returned to his Pembroke accommodations.
Police returned to the area and recovered both the bike and its key. The complainant left the Island yesterday.
In the other incident a 50-year-old Paget man said he was the victim of a robbery by three men on bikes on Thursday.
The victim told Police that he left the Esso City Supermarket, on Richmond Road, Pembroke at around 3 a.m. and continued to ride east along Church Street.
Upon stopping at the traffic lights, the complainant was then confronted by the three men on two cycles.
Two of the men, who were on the same cycle, forced the complainant off the road and began punching and kicking him.
The other man then pulled out a knife and demanded his money. The complainant handed over his wallet and the assailants took off.
The elderly man suffered a black eye, a nose bleed and minor cuts, scratches and bruises to his face and back.
The wallet contained an undisclosed quantity of cash and some personal papers.
