But Library Committee chairperson Louise Jackson said the delay will be "worth the wait''.

"The library is being given far more than we ever dreamed,'' said Mrs.

Jackson. "The library is being completely redecorated -- new carpet, new shelves, and an elevator -- and I'm sure the public will be thrilled when they see the changes.'' The library was closed on February 14 after asbestos was found in the ceilings.

Asked about the delay in reopening, head librarian Grace Rawlins said she had "no idea'' what was causing the delay.

The public has been unable to use any of the library's materials during the three and a half months that it has been closed.
